The new Windows 10 's flat window style uses a different window-border mechanism than previous Windows versions, which affects in a horrible way the window aspect, and its usage, in the meanning of window-resizing and window-positioning.

Windows 10 by default has a 1 px. In Windows 10as in previous Windows versions, you can perform some registry changes to increase the window borders width, this is an example of what I mean, for Windows 8 :. However, as for the bad-design "rules" of Windows 10if the user tries to reproduce the same registry trick in this O. S, nothing will change in the window aspect, you'll end up with a geater border, yes, but remember that only 1 px.

This poor, bad, unfriendlly, and horrible design decission of Microsoft is a fact, as is also a fact that exists much users who loves this 1 px. This issue has been discussed over "all" the Internet forums related to Windows 10 personalization, here is a simple but never-ending discussion topic on a Microsoft Community thread for your interest:. The pressence of that damn and uncustomizable? I always loved to use a program named Sizer in previous Windows versions, which is an application that lets you positionate any window to customizable preestablished positions for any visible window in just one click, however this kind of time-saver window organization applications can't work as expected in Windows 10 because the damn invisible border, because the size of the invisible borders will be sum when calculating the position for the window, and this is translated into an annonying empty space on the desktop between the positioned windows and the desktop margins For those who are familiar with Sizerthis is an image to let you understand what I mean, the blank space between positions which are the size of the damn invisible border of Windows 10 :.

So, for me and my reasons, having a 1 visible px.

windows 10 borders missing

I won't rollback to a previous Windows version because I gain more by using Windows 10 O. S and its performance advantages, however the 1 px. S, I would like to feel happy by having a real window border like in previous Windows versions, this means a border image that fills the entire border width like the images of the comparison I published above in the question introductionI don't want to have a 8 px.

windows 10 borders missing

S, then try to design and implement a real "window" appearance and beahavior, then avoid implementing invisible window resize handles for the mother of God!!. At this point, knowing that In Windows 10 the real border width is 8 px, but only 1 px. I would like to ask for a possible solution to turn visible the border in Windows 10I mean to have a real window border like in previous Windows versions, with a border image resource that fills the entire border width, NOT an invisible border.

I'm aware this question probablly needs advanced knowledges, further investigation and personal testing, because Google 's result pages will not show anyone how to solve this issue, all the people talk and discuss about this 1 px.

I must say that I have an application named Windows Style Builder for Windows 10 versionwhich is able to open a. The only requisite I claim for, is that a possible solution should not imply using a 3rd party theme like for example Aerolitethis is because I'm already using a 3rd party darker windows theme, so If I change to other light theme then I will end-up having a new problem. For that reason, please take really into account that my question is " How to turn visible the invisible window's borders of Windows 10 ", is not " which 3rd party theme I can install to see window borders in Windows 10?

Please also try don't focus the question to Sizer alternatives, those alternatives are welcome and appreciated from my side, of course, really, however the real problem is the invisible borders of Windows 10which not only will affect Sizeris a problem that will affect to overall usage of the O.

These paragraphs below are just to argument why Stardock's WindowBlinds can't be described as a solution in any manner. You can ignore all these words below. Obviouslly Stardock's WindowBlinds will be a good personalization program for other kind of purposses, or for those who feel good using it, but not just for making visible the window borders in Windows 10for these reasons:.

Please note that my intention is not to defame Stardock's products or dev. The program uses a kind of special technology that seems is not featured in common Windows themes, because it doesn't apply a theme file neither it doesn't involve a. It is an application that implies applying a custom WindowBlinds theme to "add" borders to the windows, and that consumes much resources, much.

WindowBlinds really does not turn visible the window borderswhat it seems to do is reduce the original window rectangle to print fake borders, which produces a higher non-client rectangle or "invisible window borders rectangle" more annonying than the Windows 10 default, which totally impossibilites even more the usage of programs like Sizer and etc.

We can continue saying that it adds a unwanted shadow over the window, even when you disabled all the effect options in the Control Panel settings, this is because as I mentioned at the beginning this program seems is not using common Windows themes, so the control panel options that affects to Window themes will not affect to WindowBlinds themes, instead I suspect this program uses API hooking techniques to "create" the theme environment and fake borders.

WindowsBlinds has its owns effect configurations. As a last disadvantage, WindowBlinds is a paid product, and it is a "complete" personalization application, I mean that one person should not think to pay for and to install a full suite of personalization just to try to do a single change in a Windows theme. I have a conjecture: All custom themes are based on editing built-in aero. So far there is no public documentation on how to build msstyles from scratch.

As such whether your theme has configurable visible border depends on which default msstyles was based on. You are advised to seek professional assistance at Virtual Customs. Stack Overflow for Teams is a private, secure spot for you and your coworkers to find and share information. I noticed some of our applications form windows had no borders. Specifically they have been missing the 1 pixel thick border for the left part, right part and bottom part of the form window. When it is like this it is hard to distinguish where one dialog stop and another one begins.

We find it plausible that some of our users will have their computers set up like this without the ability to change it. Is there a way to get the dialog windows looking better without doing anything crazy like manually drawing all borders?

Still quite visible against the large drop-shadow, so visible that is hard to tell that the border is transparent Our application has its own grahpical style that made it especially hard to distinguish where one dialog stops and the other one begins. Long term we are going trough all our dialogs and the graphical style of our application to make the dialogs more easily distinguishable from each other with or without borders.

Before you reinstall Windows 10, try freeing up disk space to see if that helps. Reserved storage sets aside disk space to be used by updates, apps, temporary files, and system caches, thus improving the day-to-day function of your PC by ensuring that critical OS functions always have access to disk space.

For devices with reserved storage, a reset or reinstall will first use the reserved storage space before using other disk space. For more info, see How reserved storage works in Windows Clean install of Windows 10 using installation media. This option will take your device back to a state similar to when you turned it on for the first time, removing programs you have installed and removing personal files, depending on which option you select. Resetting your device is less impactful than the clean install option, though it will require sufficient disk space.

This option will use a tool to create installation media which you can use to completely wipe the disk and install a fresh copy of Windows This option requires you to use an external storage device such as a USB drive, and will give you an option to choose what to keep during installation.

You cannot undo a reinstallation of Windows Be sure to back up your files first if you choose the Keep nothing option. This option requires you to use an external storage device such as a USB drive, and may take a few extra steps, though it will delete everything for the cleanest installation. This type of clean install deletes and recreates system partitions. It will delete all personal files on your device and the partition on your hard drive currently being used for your recovery drive. Music folders have white borders White shady border around laptop screen : Hello, I'm having problems with my laptop recently. Whenever I turn on my pc from sleep, hibernate, or restart, the screen remains black but the pc is on and working. I know this since the keyboard and power button is lit, and whenever I press the shift key multiple times,So I upgraded to the creator's update of windows 10 yesterday and ever since then I have really big window borders.

Everything I try doesn't fix it. This also happened to my computer when I did the anniversary update. I also can't change my desktop background from a solid color. I've tried upgrading and downgrading graphics drivers, upgrading windows 10 again, changed the window boarder setting in the registry, the option to go back a build doesn't work, any other ideas from you guys? Brand Representative for Microsoft. It does seem similar to the problem that DFWDraco76 is having.

And yes it happened when I upgraded to Versionbuild Any other ideas what I can try? You weren't running any different language or fonts when you updated, were you? Can you do or see anything within Windows now? What image where you using to reinstall Windows 10? Maybe try a clean image from the Media Creation Tool if you haven't already. If you can submit the feedback via the Microsoft Feedback app, that would be ideal. I could share this in the Microsoft Tech Community if you wanted, or you could.

I do have a barcode font installed, I'm wondering if that has something to do with it. I tried doing a system restore and now I just have a black screen, but before I could see everything just the window borders were big and it interfered with some things. First image I used was through the Windows upgrade assistant, then after I had this problem I downloaded the iso and ran the setup from there, and still the same problem. I upvoted someone on the Feedback Hub app that has the identical problem.

I'm planning on starting a question on Microsoft answers with this as well. I had someone on Microsoft support earlier and they just said to restart, and then I did after telling them that wasn't going to fix anything and then they were gone. I did see others mention having their custom fonts causing issues with updates, but I cannot confirm if that was the issue or what was going on in those instances Can you get the device or image to a previous version to test if it could be the barcode reader font causing this?

I think ideally you would want to wipe and update to make sure its working, then install the barcode font to see if that breaks it. It was a custom theme, of my pictures and that orange color.

I changed it to the default Windows 10 blue one and the thick border went away. Then I switched it back to the custom theme I had, and everything is working now. I feel so silly for not trying that specific thing before.
